Back in the 1990s, Bill and Melinda Gates were taken aback when they read an article detailing how many children in poor countries were dying from diarrhea.
That surprise inspired them to establish a foundation dedicated to ensuring that every person has an opportunity to lead a healthy and productive life.
In their Annual Letter this year, Bill and Melinda reflect on what’s surprised them during their journey – and how those surprises moved them to take action.
Did you know that very little is known about the causes of pre-term birth? Or that sub-Saharan Africa will double it’s share of the global labor force by 2050? Or that toilets haven’t changed in more than a century?
Read Bill and Melinda’s Annual Letter to learn more about how these surprises and others have inspired and guided their work.
